Red dirt, turquoise ocean, sun, deserted streets, Broome time......heaven.
If you are looking for a slow paced, sun filled escape Broome is your answer. This small town in northern WA is a little slice of out back heaven.
When visiting Broome staying on the iconic Cable Beach is a must for us. Waking every morning to the tropical heat & strolling down the quiet streets to one of the most breathtaking beaches in the world is incredible. You can literally walk for miles in either direction along pristine coast line. As we are always visiting Broome with the kids it is such a bonus that due to the tides at Cable Beach the sand is compact enough for the pram, so bub or the little ones can have a morning nap while you take in the amazing scenery, get your morning exercise and work on your tan, winning! There is an awesome beach hire van in front of the main car park, so don't worry about lugging your brolly on holiday with you. You can hire beach chairs, umbrellas, surf boards & all of your beach day needs right off the beach & for really reasonable prices.
Besides magic mornings consisting of beach bumming & sandcastle making there are heaps of other great activities to keep the tribe entertained. Head to the Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park, just a short drive out of town - its amazing! The kids will go mad for it & they even get to hold baby crocodiles.Go searching for dinosaur footprints at Gantheaume Point. The views of Cable Beach against the red dirt cliffs are spectacular & its an awesome place for the kids to explore. Head into town and cruise China Town which is full of cute cafes & shops & while you are there stop at Matso's Brewery for lunch. With a delicious array of boutique beers & with a great, super kid friendly, outdoor beer garden it is a must.
In the afternoons we like to pack a beach picnic and drive the car down along Cable Beach to find a secluded spot where we set up camp, swim, play, sun bake & watch the sunset & famous camels walk by.
A trip to Broome is also not complete with out spending and afternoon at the Mangrove Hotel in town. The view here over the mangroves is beautiful. If you are in Broome at the right time of year this is also the perfect place to witness the incredible Staircase to the Moon phenomenon. Sunset cocktails at the Cable Beach Club Sunset Bar also goes without saying - you really wont experience anything quite like it anywhere else in the world.
I 100% recommend hiring a car for your stay in Broome. It is a vast part of the world & to really get the most out of your stay I believe you really need a set of wheels. Only a couple of car hire companies actually insure you for driving on the beach, so you might like to ask this question before hiring your car. Make sure you ask for an esky & beach chairs to be included as this makes sunset picnics at the beach that much more enjoyable.
The pace in Broome is slow - it is wonderful! You can't help but unwind when you are there - couple that with one of the most stunning beaches in the world, tropical weather & sunsets like you have never seen & you have yourself a little slice of heaven.
